How do Etsy fees change what I keep from a sale?
Last updated October 1, 2026
On a $20 item with no shipping, a US seller pays Etsy about $2.35: a 6.5% transaction fee ($1.30), payment processing of 3% plus $0.25 ($0.85), and the $0.20 listing fee. That leaves $17.65, before your material and labor costs. If the sale came through an Offsite Ad, a further advertising fee applies.
Which fees does Etsy charge on a sale?
- Listing fee: $0.20 USD per listing. A listing with several of the same item renews at $0.20 after each one sells.
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the price you display, plus what you charge for shipping and gift wrapping.
- Payment processing (Etsy Payments): for a US bank account, 3% of the total sale price plus $0.25 per order. The total includes shipping and any sales tax. The rate depends on where your bank account is: in the UK, for example, it is 4% plus GBP 0.20. Etsy publishes the full table by country.
- Offsite Ads: 15% of an order that Etsy's offsite advertising led to, or 12% for shops with $10,000 or more in sales over the past year. It only applies to those attributed orders.

What does a US seller keep from a $20 sale?
| Fee | How it is worked out | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction fee | 6.5% x $20 | $1.30 |
| Payment processing | 3% x $20 + $0.25 | $0.85 |
| Listing fee | flat | $0.20 |
| Total fees | 11.75% of the price | $2.35 |
| You keep | $20 - $2.35 | $17.65 |
This is an illustrative example, not data from a real shop. If this order came through an Offsite Ad at 15%, another $3.00 would come off, leaving $14.65.
How do I put Etsy fees into MakerKit?
Each recipe has a Platform fee % field. It starts at 0, and MakerKit does not fill in Etsy's fees for you. It is a single percentage, so it can hold the percentage parts of Etsy's fees but not the flat $0.25 and $0.20.
Entering 9.5 (6.5% plus 3%) covers the percentage parts. On a $20 item MakerKit then takes off a $1.90 fee and shows $18.10 take-home, which is $0.45 more than the $17.65 you actually keep. The gap is the two flat fees.
To include the flat fees for one particular price, divide all the fees by that price: $2.35 / $20 = 11.75%. Entering 11.75 makes MakerKit show $17.65 at $20. This is an approximation that is only exact at that price. At a different price, work it out again.
Doing this in MakerKit
- Enter a listing price and a platform fee percentage on a recipe. MakerKit shows what you take home after the fee, your margin, and what you keep per item after your cost to make.
- The fee is a single percentage you enter. MakerKit does not look up Etsy's fees or add flat per-order fees.
